Hi there, so if you read last week I wrote about the structure I use to plan my weekly meals, I do hope you found it useful, you can check it out on my blog if you missed it.
This week I am going to show you a sample meal planner which I write out each week for our family. It helps me know what meal I am going to be cooking each night and I am able to write a shopping list and know exactly what I need to get from the supermarket so I just get what we need rather than over spending.
So breakfasts in our house are a bit of a help yourself, the choices are cereal, porridge, fruit & berries or toast! At the weekend we sometimes have a bacon sandwich or full english, yum!!
Lunches, my girls have packed lunch at school and on my Wednesday blog I have shared with you some easy packed lunch swaps and some alternative packed lunch recipes. So do check these out.
Dinner; below is an example of my weekly meal plan, I'm careful when I plan to think about what is happening that week how much time we have, so I'm planning meals that I know I will have time to make.
Monday - Salmon Tagliatelle with baby sweetcorn
Tuesday - Roast Chicken Veg Soup with homemade Cheesy Soda Bread
Wednesday - Cheesy Pasta & Roast Veg; asparagus, red & yellow peppers, mushrooms, courgettes, red onion & garlic cloves - sprinkled with paprika, salt & pepper
Thursday - Omelette and salad
Friday - Pizza Wraps & sweet potato wedges with salad
Saturday - Chicken Casserole with baby potatoes, carrots & mange tout
Sunday - Pork loins with Sausages and baked apples with roast potatoes, carrots & broccoli
With all my meals, I create the sauces from scratch using herbs, stock, cream cheese or creme freche, tinned tomatoes etc. It keeps the cost down massively by not buying pre made sauces plus it reduces sugar, salt & fat content in your diet and tastes so much better!
So as you can see it is not massively fancy and I tend to have a pad that I write out my meals in and then the shopping list, it takes about 5-10 minutes to do, so in my mind it is well worth it as our weekly food shop is about £80 per week for the 5 of us!
I hope you have found this useful and to give you some ideas of easy family meals and to help you ditch those pre-made sauces and to save you time & money on your shop!
